B.C. outlines balanced plan for grocery store liquor sales
VICTORIA – The B.C. government has outlined a unique, two-part model for liquor sales in grocery stores that will ensure convenience and choice for consumers, promote B.C. products and create jobs.
Following the B.C. Liquor Policy Review – one of the B.C. government’s most successful public engagements – Parliamentary Secretary for Liquor Policy Reform John Yap recommended that government respond to calls for convenience by consumers and allow for liquor sales in grocery stores. Government accepted Yap’s recommendations and is moving to implement a two-part model.

Liquor Reform Submission

MLA John Yap

Parliamentary Secretary to the

Attorney General and Minister of Justice

Dear Mr. Yap,

Thank you for your most recent letter outlining your review of B.C.’s liquor laws and your terms of reference.  This comprehensive review is long overdue and we appreciate being part of this process.  All Rural Agency Stores play an integral role in the distribution of liquor in British Columbia and because of that, we take this review seriously.  After much discussion with our board of directors, and in considering the input we have received from our membership, there are 3 key points which we consider to be of paramount importance.

New Discount

Rural agency stores receive discount

Liquor Distribution Branch April 9, 2013

This change is another step towards ensuring Rural Agency stores continue to serve British Columbians throughout the province and remain successful moving forward. Building on a commitment to help Rural Agency stores succeed, the Province has worked with the Rural Agency Store Advisory Society (RASAS) to negotiate a discount on their liquor purchases.

Effective April 28, 2013, Rural Agency stores will enjoy an increase of 2 percent to their discount to make it a total of 12 percent off of all of their wine, spirits and beer purchased. – Minister Rich Coleman announced changes today that will help support Rural Agency stores, while continuing to build on recent revisions to the current liquor laws in British Columbia.
